Why recruiting videos are the key to success in the catering and hotel industry

We're already doing social recruiting, why isn't it working yet?

The catering and hotel industry is known for its dynamic and fast-paced working life. Employees in this sector are passionate about this job; they create culinary delights ranging from snacks, home cooking to innovative star cuisine under great time pressure. Nowadays, however, it is a very big challenge to attract the right talent for this unique industry and, above all, to retain them in the long term. This is where a powerful tool comes into play: the recruiting video.

The power of moving images

Our brain processes visual information 60,000 times faster than text. Video content has a 50% higher interaction rate than static images and is proven to be more emotionally activating. They have the ability to convey complex information in just a few seconds, and they're great for telling a story that leaves a lasting impression on the observer.

The hotel and catering industry today is about much more than providing accommodation and meals. It is about offering guests a special experience, a unique experience that creates enthusiasm and identification with certain values. The same goes for recruiting talent. It's about showing potential employees inside that they're getting more than just a job. You'll be part of a team that works together to create unique experiences for guests. Day in, day out.

Why recruiting videos are particularly effective

Recruiting videos enable you to authentically represent the individual atmosphere, culture and working environment of your company, which cannot be conveyed with words. They offer potential employees an insight into everyday working life, show the variety of tasks and, above all, the team.

In the hospitality and hotel industry, where teamwork, hospitality and a passion for service are central, recruiting videos can effectively highlight these aspects and thus attract the right talent. They also offer the opportunity to use your existing employees as brand ambassadors by sharing their experiences and showing what it means to be part of the team.

My opinion after more than 15 years in the HR sector

I have worked in various HR roles for more than 15 years — from small to medium-sized companies in a wide variety of industries. Personnel management, from recruiting to personnel development, in strategic and operational topics — has changed massively during this time.

Jobs were initially filled via job advertisements in (specialist) newspapers, then via online job boards, on the company's career page, via headhunters and recruiters. Soon, internal programs were also used to recruit employees by recommending existing employees. Active sourcing by companies at job fairs, at network meetings or through direct contact with colleges or universities was successful for a long time.

Today, recruiting and marketing are mixing more and more intensively, and many companies have already recognized this and are combining the potential of both areas. Addressing previously identified target groups, presence on various social media platforms and the topic of “social recruiting” are moving to the foreground. More or less promising methods are being tried out more and more quickly in order to find or retain new talent for the company. Because every team member who leaves the company today leaves behind a gap that is difficult and can only be replaced with a great deal of financial outlay.

This is where our concept comes in. With our expertise in marketing and design, we create recruiting videos that generate a high level of attention in a world full of reels. We show potential applicants an authentic moving image of your company. Authentic, passionate, honest and committed.

This not only creates visibility for potential applicants, but also for the image of your entire company.

The checklist to avoid mistakes when creating recruiting videos

  1. Unclear message: The message of your video should be clear and concise. Define which aspects of your corporate culture and work environment you want to highlight and what impression you want to make on potential applicants.
  2. Lack of authenticity: The video should reflect the reality of your workplace. Excessive presentations can lead to disappointment among new employees. Make sure that your employees share real experiences and that the video authentically reproduces the atmosphere in the workplace.
  3. Missing target group definition: Clearly define who you want to address. Different target groups require different approaches. A video that appeals to young career starters is likely to be different from a video that appeals to experienced professionals.
  4. Lack of professionalism: While it can be tempting to shoot the video yourself to save costs, this can often result in a result that doesn't meet the desired professional standards. A professionally produced video shows that you are investing in your employees.
  5. Overlooked dissemination strategy: A great video won't be of much use if it isn't watched. Design a video distribution strategy that includes social media, your website, job portals, and other channels to ensure that your target audience sees it.
  6. Neglecting the call-to-action: By the end of the video, viewers should know exactly what they should do next, whether it's applying for an open position, visiting your career page, or contacting your HR team. Makes the next step easy and simple.
  7. Lack of follow-up: After an interested party has seen the video and made contact via the website, it is important to react quickly and professionally. A good first impression can quickly be destroyed by poor follow-up.
  8. Neglecting the measurement of success: As with any marketing initiative, it's important to measure the success of your video. Uses metrics such as the number of views, length of stay, engagement rate, and number of applications that result directly from the video to evaluate success and identify opportunities for improvement.
